I’m disappointed with the final Hobbit film

Warning: SPOILERS AHEAD!

So, it starts off, Smaug is terrorising Lake Town. I mean, that’s to be expected after the second film… then they kill him off within the first five minutes?????? They spend a whole sequel centred around this main character only to kill him off at the beginning of the third one??!!!

But that’s not my main problem with the film. An Unexpected Journey and The Desolation of Smaug created this fantastic build up to some grand finale, and I just feel like The Battle of the Five Armies let them down. After Smaug was killed off, I felt like the whole film was just kind of dragged out and there was no climatic point during the battle, leaving me slightly underwhelmed.

…So they decide to kill off three of the main characters?!! This is not ok! First, they kill off Fili, leaving his brother Kili distraught, only to bunk him off too and leave Tauriel to spend her immortal life without him. How could this possibly add to the story? (I know that they die and Tauriel doesn’t even exist in the book, and Peter Jackson wanted to keep the film true to the book despite introducing an elf-dwarf-elf love triangle, but it’s still not ok!)

And Thorin’s death was rather confusing. One minute he’s stabbed and unable to move, then ten seconds later he’s able to kill Azog and get up and walk to witness the destruction caused by the battle from his icy mountain top, with no visible wound. Two minutes later he’s collapsed and back on the floor with some mortal wound that’s bleeding all over the ice.

On a good note, the song by Billy Boyd played during the credits was a nice touch.
