Rocktober Blogathon: Rock of Ages Review

The Rocktober Blogathon was created by the genius Carly over at Carly Hearts Movies and everyone is invited to take part! Rules can be found on her Rocktober Blogathon post, which is also where you can comment and link to your entry.

As part of the Rocktober Blogathon, this post shall be a review of the film adaptation of Chris D’Arienzo’s 2006 Broadway musical, Rock of Ages!

Cue all the best music from the 80’s as we go back to 1987 to join Sherrie (Hough) on her way to Los Angeles to become a singer, leaving behind her home and family in Oklahoma. LA is where she meets fellow aspiring musician Drew (Boneta), broke club owners Dennis and Lonny (Baldwin and Brand), intemperate rock star Stacee Jaxx (Cruise) and manipulative manager Paul (Giamatti), but how will their stories intertwine?…

Summary

Starring: Julianne Hough, Diego Boneta, Tom Cruise, Paul Giamatti, Alec Baldwin, Russell Brand

Favourite song: Jukebox Hero/I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll

Favourite Line: “It’s Z-Guyeezz. Double the e, double the z, double the flava!”

Overall Rating: 9/10 – a great movie to sing-along/rock out to, with some clever lines and stellar casting choices.
